NIACIN INFO

If you think that the B3 that you get in your vitamin is beneficial and correct, you need to reconsider.

Almost all vitamins provide nicotinamide and call it Vitamin B3. This is a misnomer at the least. The real vitamn B3 is nicotinic acid which is both structurally and functionally different.

The real niacin will cause a flush and while it may be a little uncomfortable, it is highly beneficial. The most important action that niacin causes is the repair and unclogging of the capillaries. If you have bleeding gums, it may be a sign of poor endothelial condition and that you may need niacin. If you have skin discoloration from diabetic glycation or aging, niacin may be helpful. It also reduces bad cholesterol (LDL) and improves the good cholestrol (HDL). It releases built up histamines which can cause problems with people that have asthma. For this reason, asthmatics should use care when taking niacin.

Caution should be used when taking niacin. Only full flush niacin will offer all of the benefits. Timed release niacin has been related to some liver problems. Inositol hexanicotinate is not the right form of niacin and neither is nicotinamide.

Consumption of 3000 mg of niacin daily has been shown to reduce heart attack death by 90 percent in studies of patients who are at higher than normal risk of heart attack, which is far better than the best statin drugs. It also reduced the incidence of cancer and overall mortality in those same studies.

Taking only 100 mg daily over a lifetime should virtually eliminate heart attacks, strokes, and many cancers. Adults who have not had a heart attack will significantly benefit from 500 mg daily. Niacin is also beneficial in reducing the damage caused by diabetes.

CHOLECALCIFEROL INFO

For years, we were pounded with bad information about Vitamin D and have been deprived of the correct amounts for optimum health and lifespan. We have been told for many years that all we needed was about 200 IU a day and that amounts over 500 or 600 IU would be harmful. It is now well established that 2000 to 3000 IU is safe and beneficial without monitoring. Amounts over 3000 IU daily should be checked with routine blood tests. The proper form of Vitamin D is D3 (cholecalciferol) and taking proper amounts of vitamin D3 results in improved health overall including better bone and dental strength and significantly reduced risk of cancer.

Taking 2000 to 3000 IU daily of vitamin D3 during winter months will significantly reduce your chance of catching a cold or the flu and will significantly reduce your chances of other viral illness and will reduce your risk of cancer.

Some individuals take as much as 5000 IU to 1000 IU daily during the winter. At these levels, it is absolutely important to have your blood checked to avoid overdose.

A combination of these two vitamins can significantly reduce the cost of health care in the U.S. and around the world.
Are there other vitamins that we are being given the wrong forms of?

Yes!

Another example is Vitamin B12. Almost all vitamin manufacturers provide cyanocobalamin, calling it vitamin B12. Unfortunately, the form that the human body needs is methylcobalamin and this is the only form that can get to the brain, where it is most needed.

When you buy vitamin E in the store, you almost always get alpha-tocopherol which is synthetically manufactured. This is only one of seven forms of vitamin E and all seven are important. Among the most important and hardest to obtain is gamma tocopherol. You will find this form and others in vitamins labelled as providing "mixed tocopherols and tocotrienols".

Vitamin A also has multiple forms, all of which are beneficial. Alpha, beta, and gamma carotene as well as beta-cryptoxanthin are plant based forms that can be used by the body and retinyl ester is obtained from animal sources. Most vitamins contain the synthetic versions retinyl acetate or palmitate. The problem with the synthetic forms is that they may not provide other benefits that are obtained from the natural forms such as anti-oxident activity.
